thoughts for thursday: rain, gene kelly, and bikes

closing in on our last week here in semur, which is mind-boggling! our time here seemed to stretch endlessly ahead of us when we first arrived, and the days are long but the weeks are blurring together. yesterday, i took a shower, got dressed in clothes other than yoga pants, and put on make-up just to go to the grocery store for a handful of things. yeah, i think we're just not cut out for country living...

linking up again with nat and annie on thoughts for thursday! you should too!

Thoughts for Thursday
it has seriously been raining here since friday. that's six days. not on and off, and not nice summer storms in the evening. it's been gray, rainy, and 50 degrees and we are going a little stir crazy. july in france feels a lot like november in new york! but this dreamy forecast for seattle is keeping me going... hopefully it stays that gorgeous for our three weeks there and we get lots of time out on the water.

the view from blake's parents' house... cannot wait to be on that deck!

the big 3-0!

just 67 days until i come to the end of my twenties. i'm pretty much the last person in my group of friends to make it to that milestone birthday, and i can't say i have much anxiety about it. bring it on, new decade! my twenties certainly saw a LOT of action, and if i told 20 year old meghan what the decade in front of her held, i doubt she would have believed me. but being older and wiser is never a bad thing, and i'm so excited about what i'll look back on in another ten years.

to celebrate, blake and i just booked a weekend getaway in my favorite vacation spot, palm springs. yes, i am actually a ninety year old woman masquerading as an almost-30 year old. we've been twice before and when we first decided to move to la, being closer to palm springs was definitely high up on the list of 'pros'.

just a little weekend drive

i never really understood what it meant to "go to the city" for a day trip when you live out in the middle of nowhere/a historic but tiny village in burgundy... until this weekend, when we ventured into dijon and were immediately overwhelmed by traffic, stores, restaurants, and other humans. so many of them! it felt like we were crawling out of a cave into the daylight. yes, that's right, two former new yorkers were overwhelmed by a city of like 150,000.

so overwhelmed in fact, that as we wandered around the main street, browsed in shops, and treated ourselves to sandwiches and macarons (hey, it was like a vacation!), that i didn't take any pictures. i was too excited and distracted by the fact that i found unsweetened almond milk at a grocery store, and proceeded to buy up their entire stock. woooo!!!

anyways, we took the long way home through the incredibly beautiful vineyards of burgundy. there's a road called the 'route des grands crus", which basically translates into the road of the great wines. it's dotted with villages and vineyards and is basically stunningly gorgeous. sadly, we didn't really have much time to stop and taste any wines, but don't feel too bad for us, as we're well stocked with local bottles at home. it was threatening to storm all day, but the rain held off long enough for a few pics along the way.

top five things i'm excited about in la

in just over a month, we will be rolling into la with just a few suitcases, ready to take on the world. that makes it eight months from the original idea percolating to actually making it happen... and during those eight months, i've had a lot to get excited about. here's what i'm most looking forward to about living in los angeles.

1. weather. duh.

this could probably be numbers 1 through 10, i am that excited about the sunshine. i truly thought i was in it for the long haul with new york city, and never really pictured living anywhere else, until this winter and the phrase "polar vortex" entered my vocabulary. as i'm typing this wearing shorts in july with freckled arms, it's almost a distant memory. but those long dark days of february made it really easy to say goodbye to nyc and hello to year-round 70 degree days.

nope. nope. nope. no more.
